Delta Star Gives Back to Lynchburg Community, Financially Supports Legacy Education Center
(LYNCHBURG, Va., Sept 15, 2022) – A recent donation from Delta Star, Inc. will help Lynchburg students grow in educated economic empowerment through the Legacy Education Center (LEC) and its Pathway to Gainful Careers Program, run in partnership with Central Virginia Community College (CVCC).
Delta Star’s donation of $25,000 to the LEC will strengthen the development of the Pathway to Gainful Careers Program which incorporates natural support systems for students along with organization personnel and community representatives to focus on dynamic student needs such as; assessment preparation, structured accountability, academic support, and student welfare.
The LEC began meeting in 2015 as a supportive means to help students break through the cycle of poverty by providing learning and paid Work Study opportunities, to further develop a skilled workforce. “Our Pathway to Gainful Careers Program is designed to provide opportunity and advantages to students. The combination of accredited academics, life skills education and empowerment,” said Randy Dunton, executive director of the Legacy Education Center.
Representing Delta Star at the LEC was Jim Mott, chief financial officer; Sherry Stone, SPHR, SHRM-CP, corporate human resources director; and Jared Delello, inside sales manager.
“Partnering with the LEC allows us the privilege to become engaged in a much-needed program designed to train and develop our future workforce at Delta Star,” said Stone. “Partnering with the LEC is significant because it offers us the opportunity to become better stewards of our community by taking part in developing our community’s most important resource: people.”
Delta Star’s donation and partnership provides the opportunity to play an active role of investing in the preparation of an underserved and underemployed workforce within the Lynchburg, Virginia community while allowing the LEC to continue the great work of transforming Central Virginia’s workforce in an impactful way.
“All in all, the program is proving to be a success for the young men and women who need the extra help to succeed,” said Delello. “This program’s main focus is for economic empowerment, but at its core, it teaches students how to be good stewards of the talent they have been given in life, and to be better citizens in the communities they live in.”
