(LYNCHBURG, Va., July 22, 2024) – The announced $30 million expansion of Delta Star’s corporate headquarters and Lynchburg, Virginia, transformer manufacturing facility continues its advancement toward a completion window of this fall after officially breaking ground last September.
The expansion involves 80,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space to support tank fabrication, mobile and power transformer operations. Additionally, the project includes a 14,000 sq. ft. corporate building to consolidate the organization’s corporate headquarters and office function requirements.
“We find ourselves in one of the most unique market conditions ever experienced,” said Jason Greene, Delta Star’s president and chief executive officer. “One of unprecedented growth at a rapid pace. This expansion will enable us to better serve our customers, employees, partners, and shareholders for years to come.”
The new manufacturing building is sized at 100,000 sq. ft. with 80,000 sq. ft. dedicated to production operations. Within that space includes state-of-the-art shot blasting and paint systems, along with new Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment.
“We have worked with a number of valuable partners during our expansion journey,” said Sherry Stone, Delta Star’s corporate director of human resources. “Many industries in the United States have seen labor constraints as a challenge. For Delta Star, market demand is at historic levels, which is why we have invested in human capital as a primary focus. We’ve added positions in manufacturing, engineering, procurement and other business areas to capitalize on current and future market conditions.”
When the expansion was announced to the public in May of 2023, Delta Star committed to the creation of 149 new jobs. By June of 2024, the organization had hired, onboarded and trained over 155 new employees.
“Delta Star and Virginia Economic Development Partnership entered a partnership at the start of the expansion to aid our Lynchburg plant. The partnership has three main elements: Technical Training, Organizational Development and Talent Acquisition,” said Stone.
Delta Star has since partnered with the Virginia Manufacturing Association (VMA) to develop an apprenticeship program through a DOL apprenticeship contract for maintenance technicians. This hybrid program includes both Industrial and Electrical Maintenance custom to Delta Star.
The expansion is scheduled to be complete in October of this year.
